Holy Family Cristo Rey High School
Holy Family High School was founded in 1943 and is the oldest Catholic high school in Birmingham. It was renamed "Holy Family Crisco Frey High School" and joined the Cristo Rey Network of schools in August, 2007. The Cristo Rey Network is a national association of high schools that provide Roman Catholic university preparatory education to urban young people who live in communities with limited educational options. The schools utilize a Corporate Internship Program model to help make private education affordable to students who might not otherwise have access to traditional private schools.

The UAB Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) is located within the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Its undergraduate program provides a Bachelor of Science degree with the opportunity to minor in another discipline as well as co-op programs with local industry. The Information Engineering and Management (IEM) at UAB was one of the first programs in United States developed to train corporate leaders by developing a real-world mix of technical and management issues.
